Equipment
Equipment
Getting the right gear is one of the most important steps for your athlete’s success and enjoyment on the hill. Please visit your local ski shop early in the season to prepare equipment, get fitted, and place any special orders before stock runs low.
We strongly recommend our long-time sponsor Swiss Sports Haus. They carry Rossignol, Dynastar, Atomic, Leki and many other top brands, and their knowledgeable team has supported Tyee families for years.
Tyee members also receive 15% off regular-priced items and 20% off new skis not already on sale.
That said, there are other excellent shops in the region:
- Destination Ski – Stocks Head, Fischer, Nordica, Lange, Leki, Swix, and more. They offer boot fittings and recommend reaching out in the summer to place orders for the upcoming season (ideally by the end of September).
- The Lift Ski and Board (Port Moody) – Convenient for families in the Tri-Cities and Burnaby. They provide new equipment, repairs, tuning, and boot fittings. Their head technician is a former VST ski racer with deep race knowledge.
We also have strong relationships with other shops in the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky corridor, including:
- Alpine Pro (Whistler)
- Whistler Village Sports (Whistler)
- Sporting Life (Burnaby)
If you’re ever unsure about equipment needs, please contact your Head Coach. They’ll happily provide guidance tailored to your athlete’s program.

    U8 Equipment Requirements
We know it can feel a bit confusing to figure out what gear your child needs. To make it easier, here’s a simple list of the items we recommend for U8 athletes, including a few mandatory pieces.
If you’re unsure about the right skis or sizes, please reach out to your coaches, they’re happy to guide you. You can also chat with parents from older groups, who have been through it before.
Don’t worry, we’re here to help make it all make sense!

    Ski Tuning
Keeping skis in good shape is essential for performance and safety. Skis should be tuned consistently throughout the season and wiped down with a dry cloth after every day on the hill.
For families new to tuning, we know it can feel intimidating at first. While professional tuning services are always an option, we strongly encourage parents to learn to tune skis themselves—especially when kids are younger. It’s a skill that saves time, builds confidence, and kids can even join in on the process.
To help, the club has videos available and offers members a discount on tools from Sidcut (details below). And don’t hesitate to ask more experienced parents for support—many are happy to set up a tuning day and share what they’ve learned.
