U10 – FUNdamentals to Learn to Train Transition
Target Age: 8–9
ACA LTAD Stage: FUNdamentals
Program Purpose
U10 builds on the FUNdamentals stage by expanding skill variety while maintaining a strong emphasis on fun, participation, and skill acquisition. This is still a key entry point for many new families.
Athlete Development Focus
Athletes continue to develop physical literacy, skiing fundamentals, and confidence across varied terrain, while beginning to understand basic training habits.
Technical Skills
- Refinement of turning skills and balance
- Introduction to more consistent edging
- Development of rhythm and flow
Physical Literacy
- Agility, balance, coordination, and speed development
- Movement variety both on and off snow
Competition & Events
- Optional local events focused on participation
- Emphasis on experience, not outcomes
Athlete Wellbeing & Safety
- Age-appropriate workload and rest
- Positive reinforcement and enjoyment
On-Snow Training
- High-volume free skiing with structured skill challenges
- Introduction to brush courses and simple race formats
- Continued emphasis on terrain-based learning
Tactical & Cognitive Development
- Understanding basic line choice
- Awareness of speed management
- Learning to focus for short training blocks
Equipment
- Race-inspired equipment that supports skill development
- Emphasis on correct fit and safety
Parent Role
- Encourage effort, curiosity, and resilience
- Avoid focusing on results or comparisons
Program Schedule
- Season Duration: Late December through March, with optional spring training in April and May.
- Start of Season: Begins with a four-day Christmas Camp in late December (included in the U10 program fee)
- Spring skiing: Optional Whistler ski training sessions in April and May(additional cost applies)
- Weekend Training: from 7:15 am to 2:30 pm
- Weeknight Training: from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Registration Options
- U10: Choose either Saturday or Sunday, plus one evening session (Tuesday or Thursday)
- U10+: Attend both Saturday and Sunday sessions, plus one evening session (Tuesday or Thursday)(Additional fee applies)
Group Placement & Attendance
Skiers are grouped based on ability following assessments by the U10 coaching team. Final group placements are approved by the U10 Head Coach and Program Director. Some group adjustments may occur during the season and will require parental patience and flexibility.
Racing Opportunities
The U10 program offers moderate racing opportunities, with a focus on team success and development.
Race event fees (home or away) are not included in the program registration fee. U10 athletes are invited to participate in the December Club Race and April Tyee Day, accompanied by their parents.

Tyee Family Membership - $485
U10 Regular Program Fee - $2033 (1 weekday evening and 1 weekend day)
U10 Plus Program Fee - $2256 (1 weekday evening and 2 weekend days)
