Apply to Tyee
Tyee accepts new skiers at the end of each ski season for the following season. This means that you will need to apply a year ahead in order to secure a spot for your child.
Typically we have openings in our U8 and U10 programs, however we take older racers depending on their skill level. If your child is 10 years or older then please contact us directly at membership@grousetyee.com
our application process
Typically our application process follows these steps:
- Attend an info session: We host multiple info sessions starting at the end of January and running until the spring to educate potential members about Tyee and share what it means to be a part of the Grouse Tyee Ski Club.
- Submit your application: Applications will open every spring and must be filled out and submitted in order to be considered.
- Your child attends the Try Tyee: We host Try Tyee days for our potential athletes. During these our coaches will ski with your children to determine if they are ready for the program, or might need another year of practice before joining.
Is My Family The Right Fit For Tyee?
Tyee is primarily a volunteer driven organization that requires both the children and the parents to be actively involved in order for us to be successful.
So we look for families who:
- have a real passion for skiing and ski racing.
- are willing to volunteer a minimum of 40 hours per year
- want to actively be a part of the Tyee community
- have a desire to live our community values
How do i know if my u8 is ready for tyee?
Tyee is not a ski school and so all children must have a strong base of knowledge, ability and skill in order to join.
To determine if your child is ready to join the Tyee Ski Club then you should be able to confidently answer YES to all of these questions.
- Your child is a strong skier for their age
- They can link short radius turns continuously down a run such as The Cut, without stopping, at a consistent moderate speed.
- They are comfortable skiing down green and groomed blue runs.
- Your child has participated in a ski program or school or skis with you often and truly loves the sport.
We've provided some videos below to showcase what a U8 skier who is ready for Tyee might look like. In both videos you'll notice that the child is controlled and able to make decisions on where to go on the hill with confidence.

How do i know if my u10 is ready for tyee?
U10 is a more advanced level of ski racing than U8 and so racers must have a strong history of skiing and be comfortable on more intensive terrain. Children must be able to ski with both speed and control.
In U10 skiers build confidence and control through carving, pole planting, and dynamic movement. U10 introduces gate training, speed skills, and encourages focus and self-awareness to prepare athletes for more advanced skiing.
We have provided a video below showing what an average day looks like in U10 to help you determine if your child is right for the program.
